Wrought Iron Restoration
We are fascinated by historical craftsmanship and are particularly focused on restoring pieces to meet modern sensibilities while maintaining historically appropriateness. Being the grandson and inheritor to many ornamental metalworks of internationally recognized blacksmith Alfred Elex Crawford, we have a great deal of experience repairing, restoring, upgrading and preserving long neglected pieces.
Selected metalworks include:
-Craftsman Wrought Iron Street Lantern- stripped, repainted, reglazed, custom new foundation bracket and concrete footing, rewired and lamped to work with a 12v low-voltage landscape lighting system.
-Anvil and Anvil Base- lightly sanded and finished with a specialized clear coating that protects and preserves the rusted metal patina. This coating provides protection and prevents further rust or deterioration, while also revealing the character and history of the metal.
-Old Mariner's Lantern- originally an oil burning lantern, it had at some point been converted to a 120v electric bulb. No longer working, this lantern was completely stripped, cleaned, and refinished. Due to the unusual lighting optics required by the existing fixture, a completely custom LED luminaire was created utilizing COB LED strip lighting spiraling around a PVC core. This lantern now provided a beautiful, bright warm white light (2700K) that is both energy efficient and landscape-safe by utilizing a 12v low-voltage lighting system.
